Nikon used the Consumer Electronic Show to announce that the D5600 is now available in the United States. The news wasn’t all that surprising, given that Nikon had previously announced the camera in Europe and Asia late last year. Nonetheless, the D5600 is an excellent and relatively affordable camera.  It is more than just an entry-level DSLR.

“The Nikon D5600 is the latest camera in Nikon’s popular D5000 series — a camera line that represents a stepping stone for photographers who want to further explore their creative boundaries,” said Kosuke Kawaura, Director of Marketing and Planning, Nikon Inc.

The D5600 replaces the D5500, which was introduced a year and a half ago. While there are many similarities, Nikon’s latest entry in the mid-range DSLR market offers several new features. The most notable is the addition of Nikon’s Snapbridge app. It uses Bluetooth low energy (BLE) technology to maintain a constant connection between the camera and any compatible smart phone or tablet. The technology automatically transfers photos to your device and also allows you to use your smartphone as a camera remote to take pictures from a distance.

Below are several other key features of the Nikon D5600:

  • 2-megapixel high-resolution CMOS sensor
  • Powerful EXPEED 4 image processor
  • 2-inch Vari-angle touch LCD that functions just like a smartphone
  • Advanced 39-point Auto Focus system (3x more autofocus points than the D3400
  • Wide ISO range from 100-25,600
  • Expanded ISO sensitivity of 6,400 in Night Landscape mode
  • Full HD 1080 at 60p video capability with built-in stereo sound

The D5600 is a great first DSLR option because it is fairly easy to use out of the box. At the same time, it includes additional advanced features that give budding photographers room to grow.

The Nikon 5600 is available now in several different configurations. It will cost $799.95 with the AF-P DX NIKKOR 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G VR lens. It will also be available in a two-lens kit option, including the AF-P DX NIKKOR 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G VR and AF-P DX NIKKOR 70-300mm f/4.5-6.3G ED lenses, for $1,149.95. The D5600 will be sold as a body only for $699.95 or with a AF-S DX NIKKOR 18-140mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR lens for $1,199.95.
